About Me

Sarah Murphy, independent blacksmith and owner of Madrilena Metals.

Featuring unique home decor items, swords and knives. I'm always looking to expand my skills so if you have another request, I'd love to make it happen!

I design and forge all of my pieces individually. Every order is custom, so every item contains a lot of time and love...and my prices are great too! I believe in this business, love those in it, and consider it an honor to share what I create with the world.

FAQ

Madrilena?

"Madrilena" in Castilian Spanish slang means simply "a woman from Madrid". I'm adopted, and I wanted to honor the women in my biological family who have roots there in Spain.

How did you learn to be a blacksmith?

I began blacksmithing because of my little sister, who is a licensed farrier. I tried it once and loved it. I proceeded to buy my first forge off of Craigslist, joined groups online and found a tutor in my area. I still mess up quite often but it's one of the best parts of the job and I wouldn't trade my mistakes for anything.

Do you have any tips or tricks for someone starting out?

Practice, practice, practice! Every blacksmith has their own preferred way of doing things, and it might take a while before you find your groove,. Don't get discouraged! Mistakes are creative ways to learn. I laugh at myself all the time! So don't be afraid to ask others in this field for help or advice.
